Quadras

A quadra is one-fourth of the socion, formed from four types of IM, or two dual dyads that activate each other and belong to different rings of social progress. Members of the same quadra are united by a certain commonality of interests, and most importantly, by the absence of opportunities for conflict. They always understand each other and do not see anything offensive or hurtful behind each other’s words and actions. Their teamwork is extremely fruitful and productive.

Communication within one’s own quadra relieves physical and psychological fatigue, activates the individual, improves their vitality, and provides psychological immunity to life adversities. A quadra is the ideal psychotherapy group. Quadras can be formed from a rather high number of people, and it is not at all necessary for there to be an equal number of each of the types of IM.

It is noteworthy that if a person from another quadra enters such a group, they either feel extremely uncomfortable, or cause this kind of discomfort to the entire quadra. “Who wins” is determined by the ratio of the types of IM. Some “outsiders” are barely noticed by the quadra, while others “split” it, “tear it apart.” Undoubtedly, this is how the incompatibility of biofields manifests itself.

There are four quadras in total.

First (α, alpha)
Ethical-sensoric extrathyme (*, ESE) and logical-intuitive introthyme (, LII)
Intuitive-logical extrathyme (, ILE) and sensoric-ethical introthyme (, SEI)

Symbols for IMEs

Second (β, beta)
Ethical-intuitive extrathyme (, EIE) and logical-sensoric introthyme (, LSI)
Sensoric-logical extrathyme (, SLE) and intuitive-ethical introthyme (, IEI)

Third (γ, gamma)
Logical-intuitive extrathyme (, LIE) and ethical-sensoric introthyme (, ESI)
Sensoric-ethical extrathyme (, SEE) and intuitive-logical introthyme (, ILI)

Fourth (δ, delta)
Logical-sensoric extrathyme (, LSE) and ethical-intuitive introthyme (, EII)
Intuitive-ethical extrathyme (, IEE) and sensoric-logical introthyme (, SLI)

Natural Quadrization

Original (p.49)

The activity of each social group (especially a leadership group), the group’s ability or inability to unite to address various challenges and solve tasks, is determined not only by the homogeneity of the group’s social interests, but also by the socionic compatibility of its members. Socio-psychological compatibility is essential for people to be able to unite, pursue a common idea, and resolve emerging issues quickly and unequivocally while avoiding fighting and quarrelling.

Usually a particular quadra is at the center of each active social group.

To unite on the basis of quadra people must break through the barriers of social ties, such as those based on kinship, class, clan, caste, ethnicity, religion, etc. Usually this is only possible in unique social circumstances, when this breaking of ties is inevitable due to more general social issues or challenges. So far it only happened in extreme social situations: revolution, liberation war, the emergence of a new branch of science, i.e. any social unrest. This unrest is nothing other than the quadral crystallization of society. In the society of the future, one that would be crystallized on the basis of quadra, this kind of uncontrollable unrest shaking the societal foundation would be impossible due to the fact that such a society would have no stagnation.

What do quadras provide to a person? A protection of their activity and ideal conditions for their self-realization. There is no stagnation or outbursts of aggression if everyone is active and feels satisfaction from this activity recognized by their quadra.

So far neither the history of sciences, nor the history of social states has been seriously studied in our country through the prism of socionics. But there already are some observations. At least it is known that any social unrest results in the emergence of some kind of quadral core.

Below we attach some of the examples we know:

1. Only people not knowledgeable about typology may consider it a coincidence that Abram Ioffe was SEI and Igor Kurchatov – ILE, i.e. they were duals.  Everyone who understands the regularities of intertype relations also understands that Kurchatov’s scientific-organizational activity would have been several times less successful without the dual’s “umbrella”: timely moral support, advertising, an ability to make reports, to provide care, etc. Such a peaceful work relationship could never have formed between Ioffe and Lev Landau (LIE).

2. Sergei Korolev played a huge role in Yuri Gagarin’s fate. It was Korolev who noticed Gagarin’s courage and special talents. But they, too, were duals and, undoubtedly, could appreciate each other’s positive qualities better than other people could. Korolev – SLE, Gagarin – IEI.

3. Particularly interesting is the personal biography of Cecil Rhodes, who went to South Africa as a penniless, frail young man suffering from tuberculosis. Somehow Rhodes very quickly amassed enormous wealth, becoming one of the richest and most influential people in the capitalist world. Cunning and personal charm? Not the only reasons. In fact, when it comes to personal charm, Rhodes had a rather serious physical defect – an unpleasantly high-pitched voice. But he had friends from his quadra, and although they never pooled their capital, they all worked together, fully trusting and helping each other. Cecil Rhodes himself was ESE, his friend Charles Dunell Rudd – LII, and Alfred Beit – SEI.

Rhodes also tried to get close to another businessman, Barney Barnato. But this could not have succeeded due to the fact that Bornato was IEI, i.e. Rhodes’ supervisor. Their joint activity was doomed to failure, and to each of them it always seemed as if the other consciously caused this failure. Rhodes and his quadra were stronger, and it ended in the complete bankruptcy of Bornato, someone an ESE cannot trust.

4. The American Revolutionary War was led by quadra alpha: George Washington – ESE, Thomas Jefferson – LII, Alexander Hamilton – SEI, Aaron Burr – SEI, Benjamin Franklin – ILE, Robert Morris – SEI, and Samuel Adams – SEI.

From Theory of Reinin Dichotomies

Original

Quadrization is based on the sameness of verbal blocks – the Ego and Superid of the quadrals*. Socion has only two dyads whose verbal blocks are formed from the same half-phases**.

* Members of the same quadra. Hereinafter the asterisks (*) indicate the translator’s notes.
** The term “phases” was explained in Augusta’s work Socion.

For the sake of clarity let us list all half-phases of the verbal blocks:

Alpha:
Beta:
Gamma:
Delta:

Note that in each consecutive quadra, two half-phases change and two remain unchanged.

The verbal blocks are Ego + Superid, and the non-verbal ones are Superego + Id.

The main feature of the verbal blocks is the fact that everything related to the aspects reflected by these blocks gets discussed a lot without any embarrassment. Any arguments, discussions, attacks are possible. All of this is at the level of an intellectual discussion game, or help for those who do not understand something. On the other hand, the actual realization of these blocks happens individually, i.e. preferably without witnesses, especially those witnesses who are inclined to be critical.

Non-verbal blocks are the blocks of collective activity, and this is the area where people are careful with conversations and jokes. The only thing allowed here is the transfer of objective information, what one has seen or heard without one’s own comments.

Quadrals are able to cooperate due to the fact that their verbal (as well as non-verbal) blocks are formed from the same half-phases of IM. Therefore, under no circumstances do they seem tactless, unfriendly, or hostile to each other. If they are not doing or saying something, it is clear that they cannot do it or do not know it.
